Key Privacy Commitment: All data is stored either locally on your device(s) or in your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your data.

  • Saved Locations: Your saved destinations and routes
  • Trip Metadata: Trip names, safety scores, and weather warnings
  • Weather Data: Weather forecasts associated with your routes and trips
  • Route Information: Navigation routes and waypoints for your planned trips

Application Settings

  • Weather and map provider preferences
  • Temperature and distance unit settings
  • Notification preferences and timing
  • Auto-refresh settings for weather updates
  • Onboarding completion status
  • Premium feature settings and subscription status

2. How Your Information Is Used

Your information is used solely to provide the App's functionality:

Core Features

  • Weather Forecasting: Route and location data are used to fetch weather forecasts from third-party services
  • Safety Analysis: Calculate trip safety scores based on weather conditions
  • Alert Generation: Generate weather warnings for your planned trips

Data Synchronization

  • iCloud Sync: Sync your saved trips and settings across your personal iOS devices
  • watchOS Integration: Share data between the iOS App and Apple Watch for seamless experience

Notifications

  • Weather Monitoring: Background tasks monitor weather changes for saved trips
  • Pre-departure Alerts: Send notifications before your planned departure times

3. Data Storage and Synchronization

Your privacy is paramount. The App is designed to store your data on your devices and within your personal iCloud account.

Local Storage

If iCloud is not available or disabled, the App will fall back to storing all data in a local-only database on your device.

iCloud Sync

  • Trip Data: Saved trips and all related data are synced using NSPersistentCloudKitContainer in your private iCloud database
  • Settings: Application settings are synced using NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore (iCloud Key-Value Store)
  • Privacy: All data remains in your personal iCloud account and is never accessible to us

watchOS Synchronization

  • Shared Storage: Data is shared between iOS and watchOS apps using shared App Group container (group.com.drivecast.app)
  • Real-time Updates: Apple's WatchConnectivity framework provides real-time updates between devices
  • Local Processing: All synchronization occurs between your personal devices only

4. Third-Party Services

DriveCast relies on third-party services to provide mapping and weather data. Your interactions with these services are subject to their respective privacy policies.

Weather Providers

  • WeatherKit (Default): Apple's WeatherKit service, governed by Apple's privacy policies
  • OpenWeatherMap (Optional): Available as an alternative weather provider for premium users

Map Providers

  • Apple Maps (Default): Default routing provider from Apple
  • Google Maps (Optional): Available as an alternative routing provider for premium users
Provider Selection: Alternative providers (OpenWeatherMap and Google Maps) are available as premium features. Standard users have access to the default providers: Apple Maps and WeatherKit.

5. Your Rights and Controls

Data Control

  • All your data remains under your complete control on your devices and iCloud account
  • You can modify or delete any saved trips and settings at any time
  • You can disable iCloud sync to keep data local-only
  • Notification preferences can be adjusted or disabled entirely

Data Deletion

  • App Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all local data
  • iCloud Data: Delete iCloud backup data through your iCloud account settings
  • Selective Deletion: Remove individual trips, routes, or reset specific settings within the app

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

Changes become effective immediately upon posting unless otherwise specified.
